Evaluation of maneuvering capability and safeness of the cycling wheelchair


 

The cycling wheelchair is a rehabilitation instrument by rowing a pedal with both feet, and the purpose is to improve walking capability of patients. The difference from the normal wheelchair is ability to move by using the legs instead of hands. In our laboratory, we have researched to make the cycling wheelchair more familiar rehabilitation system. Specifically, we have developed autonomous navigation system that enables to run safely in outdoors and indoors, the technology to visualize the progress of rehabilitation, and a quantification method of the invisible state parameters of patients.
